Coumarin Perfumes

Coumarin feels warm, dry and softly sweet in perfume. It can suggest hay, tonka and almond, yet is usually less creamy than a pronounced vanilla base.

Coumarin: the dry thread between hay and tonka

Coumarin has a sun-warmed quality that is neither plainly vanilla-like nor purely herbal. It can give a fragrance the comfort of dried grass without becoming rustic.

What changes beside tonka

Tonka bean is often creamier and more almond-like. Coumarin keeps the blend drier; in fougère or woody compositions it joins freshness to the base.

Does coumarin smell like vanilla?

Not directly. They can complement each other, but coumarin is usually more hay-like and less dessert-like.
