Bakhoor Lail Maleki – Oriental Incense by Ard Al Zaafaran
- Top note: Fruits, Spices, Citrus
- Heart note: Jasmine, Gardenia, Orchid, Honey
- Base note: Sandalwood, Amber, Musk, Caramel
Some incense fragrances stay with you long after you first encounter them – caught in someone's home, at a gathering, in a room where someone took the time to prepare for the evening. Bakhoor Lail Maleki by Ard Al Zaafaran is one of those fragrances. Not overpowering, not heavy – but warm, floral, with a sweetness that spreads slowly through a room and lingers long after the last piece has burned down.
The opening is fruity and lively. Citrus brings a bright freshness to the first moments, quickly gathered up by spices and guided towards warmth. Fruity notes give the opening volume and a gently sweet softness – inviting rather than intrusive. An opening that makes you curious about what follows.
The heart is the centrepiece of this incense. Jasmine unfolds in full bloom – warm, intense, unmistakably oriental. Gardenia adds a creamy, faintly exotic dimension, orchid a floral depth that is rarely found in this combination. And then there is honey – that golden, soft accord that gives the heart its particular quality. Sweet without being cloying, floral without shouting. In smoke, these notes develop a warmth and softness that cannot be experienced on skin alone. The heat transforms them into something deeper, more meditative.
The base holds everything together. Sandalwood settles creamily beneath the floral heart and gives it substance. Amber brings that golden warmth that makes oriental incense unmistakable. Musk adds a sensual depth, caramel a sweet roundness that stays in the room long after burning. The fragrance settles into cushions, curtains and textiles – still perceptible hours after the last ember has cooled.
Bakhoor Lail Maleki represents one of the most beautiful traditions of the Arab world – burning fragrant woods and resins, a practice observed for centuries in royal courts, mosques and private homes alike. Lail Maleki translates roughly as "royal night" – and the name delivers on its promise. This is an incense for special moments: receiving guests, Friday evenings, Ramadan, the quiet hours after prayer. For every moment when a home should be more than four walls.
Ard Al Zaafaran – one of the most respected houses of oriental perfumery from the United Arab Emirates – is synonymous with the highest quality in the selection of woods, resins and fragrant oils. The bakhoor is delivered in pressed form: wood pieces soaked in perfume oil that, when burned on incense charcoal, release their precious aromatic compounds slowly and evenly. No synthetic smoke, no harsh odour – simply a fine, lasting veil of fragrance that transforms a room.
Those looking for oriental bakhoor with floral and fruity notes, for an incense that is warm and sensual rather than heavy or resinous, for Ard Al Zaafaran quality from the Emirates – will find in Lail Maleki an interpretation that meets this standard at the highest level.
How to use
Light incense charcoal over a flame – a lighter or candle works perfectly – and wait until it begins to glow evenly. Place the glowing charcoal in a bakhoor holder or another fireproof vessel, set a piece of Lail Maleki on top and allow the fragrance to unfold. Ventilate the room well after burning. Incense vessels become very hot – use a fireproof surface and never leave unattended. Keep children and pets away throughout use.
