Lattafa Emeer – Eau de Parfum with Juniper, White Tea and Sandalwood
- Top note: Bergamot, lemon, juniper berry, clary sage
- Heart note: Cardamom, white tea, olibanum, sandalwood
- Base note: Ambergris, cashmeran, cedar, patchouli
Juniper over white tea, sandalwood at the centre. A calm fragrance with a clear line.
Juniper and lemon
The opening is green and dry. Bergamot and lemon give a bright tip, and juniper berry lays its resinous, faintly gin-like note beneath.
Clary sage adds a herbal warmth with a trace of tobacco. These four materials make an entry that reads fresh without being generic.
Cardamom and white tea
Cardamom arrives at the heart, warm and lightly camphorous, and shifts the fragrance in a spicy direction.
White tea stands beside it and brings a delicate, almost transparent freshness that keeps the cardamom bright. Olibanum, that is frankincense, adds a dry resinous depth and sandalwood a creamy mildness. These four materials make the heart the most interesting part of the fragrance.
Ambergris, cedar and patchouli
The base stays in the same calm line. Ambergris gives salty, mineral warmth and cashmeran a velvety softness.
Cedar brings dry, pointed wood and patchouli sets earth against it. What remains is a dry, woody ground tone that works close to the skin and stays a long time.
The right setting
Emeer works all year. In summer lemon and white tea come forward, and in the cold season frankincense and cedar gain weight. The shift is moderate and the basic character stays the same across the year.
It suits the office, everyday wear and the evening. It is restrained enough for working days and has enough substance for occasions. That range is rare and makes it a good choice for anyone who wants to get by with one bottle.
White tea as a note
White tea is one of the most delicate notes in perfumery. It smells light, dry and papery, with a freshness that is neither citrus nor floral.
In Emeer it does important work: it keeps the heart bright even with cardamom and frankincense beside it. Without it the fragrance would be considerably heavier and darker.
Lattafa Perfumes was founded in Dubai in 1980. Emeer means prince in Arabic and is among the calmer, unisex compositions in the range. The bottle holds 100 ml.
How it behaves on skin
Lemon and juniper hold for about twenty minutes, then the cardamom takes over. The white tea beside it keeps this phase from turning heavy and holds the fragrance airy.
From the second hour frankincense and sandalwood come forward. The fragrance turns warmer and drier and moves closer to the skin without leaving its calm line.
Testing Emeer for the first time, after three hours you will find a considerably woodier version of the start. That restraint is intentional and makes it one of the most wearable fragrances in the range.
How to wear it
Apply to neck and wrist. On clothing the woody base with cedar and patchouli in particular holds, staying there past the day.
Let it dry down after application and avoid rubbing it in. Store the bottle away from light at room temperature so frankincense and sandalwood keep their depth.
