Lattafa Hayaati Al Maleky – Eau de Parfum with Rhubarb, Lavender and Vanilla
- Top note: Rhubarb, lemon
- Heart note: Lavender, clary sage
- Base note: Vanilla, vetiver, patchouli
Tart rhubarb over lavender, vanilla in the floor. A fragrance with an unusual opening.
Rhubarb and lemon
The opening is tart and green. Rhubarb smells sour and lightly woody, with a freshness closer to a stem than to a fruit.
Lemon gives a clear, juicy tip above it. This pairing is unusual for a fragrance that later ends creamy and makes the first minutes especially awake.
Lavender and clary sage
The heart is narrow and classically aromatic. Lavender smells clean and herbal, with a light sweetness in the background.
Clary sage adds a warm, faintly tobacco-like note with ambered depth. These two materials bridge the tart top and the sweet base and give the fragrance its middle.
Vanilla, vetiver and patchouli
The base turns the fragrance in a warm direction. Vanilla brings creamy sweetness that picks up the opening rhubarb and rounds it off.
Vetiver sets earthy dryness against it and patchouli a resinous depth. This counter-movement keeps the sweetness in frame. What remains is a creamy, lightly earthy ground tone that works on the skin for a long time.
The right setting
Hayaati Al Maleky works all year. In summer rhubarb and lemon come forward, and in the cold season the vanilla base gains weight.
It suits everyday wear, the office and the evening. That range makes it a safe choice when only one bottle is available. It reads appropriate at any time of day and can be worn all year.
Why rhubarb and vanilla work together
On paper this is an odd pairing. Rhubarb is tart and green, vanilla creamy and sweet.
In Hayaati Al Maleky it works because the lavender at the heart takes over the transition. It is dry enough for the rhubarb and soft enough for the vanilla and so links both ends.
Lattafa Perfumes was founded in Dubai in 1980. The Hayaati line covers several versions and Al Maleky is the creamiest of them. The bottle holds 100 ml.
How it behaves on skin
The rhubarb holds for about twenty minutes and is the most striking part of the opening. Then the lavender takes over and makes the fragrance calmer.
From the second hour the vanilla works. It grows creamier and denser while vetiver and patchouli provide dryness beneath.
Testing Hayaati Al Maleky for the first time, after three hours you will find a considerably warmer version of the start. The contrast between the tart opening and the creamy close is the interest of this composition.
On skin it projects moderately and stays recognisable for many hours. On clothing the vanilla in particular holds, showing its creamy side most clearly there and fully replacing the tart opening.
How to wear it
Apply to neck and wrist, and add some to clothing for the evening. On textile the vanilla base in particular holds.
Let it dry down after application and avoid rubbing it in. Store the bottle away from light at room temperature.
