Dark Vetiver by Sultan Essancy – Eau de Parfum for men
Top notes: bergamot, lemon
Heart notes: jasmine, rose, rockrose
Base notes: vetiver, oakmoss, cedarwood, cedar needles, guaiac wood, pink pepper, galbanum, nutmeg, pepper, amyris, celery seed, caraway
Dark Vetiver starts with bergamot and lemon, then opens into jasmine, rose, and rockrose before arriving at an exceptionally detailed woody-aromatic base. Vetiver, oakmoss, cedarwood, cedar needles, guaiac wood, peppers, galbanum, nutmeg, amyris, celery seed, and caraway create its depth.
The name points toward vetiver, but the fragrance is not a single-note study. Citrus gives it a bright entrance, flowers soften the center, and the broad base mixes woods, green facets, spice, and moss. This produces a distinctly masculine, structured progression.
Bergamot and lemon set the opening
Bergamot and lemon make the opening concise and clear. Both notes are citrus, but bergamot feels more aromatic while lemon adds a sharper brightness. Their pairing gives Dark Vetiver a clean first stage before the composition becomes more floral and woody.
Because the top contains only two notes, the shift into the heart is easy to notice. The citrus brightness recedes and jasmine, rose, and rockrose bring a softer, more textured middle. The fragrance briefly opens before moving into its dense lower structure.
Jasmine adds luminosity to the heart, rose supplies floral body, and rockrose introduces a warmer resinous nuance. The three notes keep the middle from feeling too delicate, making it a credible bridge between sparkling citrus and the rugged base.
Jasmine and rose shape the heart
Rockrose is especially useful in the transition. Its resinous character already hints at the deeper materials below, while jasmine and rose retain a floral lift. This makes the heart feel connected to both the bright top and the dark base.
Vetiver is the central anchor once the base begins. Its dry, earthy woodiness establishes the fragrance's main direction. Oakmoss adds green depth, while cedarwood and cedar needles reinforce a crisp forest-like structure without turning the composition into a simple cedar scent.
Guaiac wood and amyris broaden the woody texture. They sit beside the drier cedar and vetiver facets, creating variation inside the base itself. Dark Vetiver therefore feels layered below rather than merely heavy, with each woody shade adding a different texture.
Vetiver and oakmoss carry the base
Pink pepper, pepper, and nutmeg bring different kinds of spice. Galbanum adds a sharp green tone, while celery seed and caraway introduce dry aromatic details. These smaller accents keep the base lively and prevent the woods from becoming flat or uniform.
Oakmoss ties the green and earthy aspects together. It supports vetiver, galbanum, cedar needles, and the aromatic seeds, giving the lower half a coherent chypre-like character. The finish feels dry and complex, yet each group of notes has a clear role.
The progression from lemon and bergamot through flowers into vetiver and moss creates a strong contrast between light and depth. Dark Vetiver earns its name in the lower half, but the bright opening and floral center ensure that darkness arrives gradually rather than immediately.
How Dark Vetiver changes from top to base
Its profile is citrusy, green, aromatic, spicy, woody, and mossy. Sweetness is not the focus. Instead, the fragrance relies on dry texture and numerous subtle variations in wood, spice, herbs, and moss to create interest.
The masculine classification follows naturally from vetiver, cedar, oakmoss, peppers, galbanum, and aromatic seeds. Jasmine and rose soften the middle, but they function as contrast within a composition whose strongest structural language remains dry, green, and woody.
The fragrance signature of Dark Vetiver
Bergamot, rose, and vetiver provide three simple orientation points in an otherwise detailed pyramid. Around them, rockrose, moss, multiple woods, spices, and green materials expand the picture. This makes the fragrance intricate without losing its basic direction.
Dark Vetiver by Sultan Essancy begins with clean citrus, briefly opens through jasmine and rose, then settles into a broad landscape of vetiver, oakmoss, cedar, guaiac wood, spice, and green aromatics. Its identity lies in that gradual move toward dry woody depth.
